Tamil Nadu knows how to revere and respect women, going beyond mere lip service. Why else would the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2022 Report state that Chennai is now the safest metro city for women in India? Also, data from the Annual Survey of Industry (2019–20) by the Indian Labour Ministry revealed that 43% of Indian women working in the manufacturing sector hail from Tamil Nadu. So even at the workplace, women are being held in high regard.
The New Indian Express too is back to honour these women of Tamil Nadu at its 25th edition of Devi Awards 2024, who have earned their respect.
Whether it is surviving and helping others survive in the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung or battling the highest temperatures, come rain or shine or a tempest of any other nature — women of Tamil Nadu have faced every adversity with grit and grace. And it is this eternal spirit of Tamil Nadu women that we would like to salute through our earnest endeavour
